The most slept on destination in Oakland has to be Lake Merritt. This place really knows how to shine bright especially when the sun in shining bright in “The Town”. Regardless of weather, people consistently flock around the 3.7 mile lake track on foot, bike, electric scooter, or skateboard. The lake also provides endless food and drink options around its curves.

Jack London Square

Jack London Square is one of the best places to visit in Oakland for many reasons. The once dangerous and dilapidated area, has revamped it’s colors and added many upscale and trendy destinations. PLANK is the must visit spot in the area for outdoor bocce ball, bowling, and many other forms of entertainment. Jack London also is a main connection point for the SF bound and incoming Ferry. Time your ferry ride to coincide with one of the many happy hours in the area.

Oakland A’s/Raiders/Warriors Games

Oakland is rooted deep in Sports culture. The Athletics are one of the most successful Baseball franchises to date and their counterparts, are almost equally as impressive. The only problem is that the later two have departed for other regions to play their games. Keep up to date with their schedules as many locals watering holes in Oakland have big turn outs to cheer on their teams.

Situated in uptown Oakland, The Fox offers music enthusiasts a historic music venue. Besides it’s famed past, concert goers are spoiled with numerous food and drinks options pre and post show. The Fox is one of the Bay Area’s top music venues and can’t be missed when passing through Oakland’s downtown.

San Francisco gets all the love for its Chinatown and deserving so, but Oakland has a Chinatown that is worthwhile to explore too. Excellent food options and endless street art make this an enjoyable stop. A great part about Oakland’s Chinatown is it’s much more condensed and flat, making getting around a breeze.

One of the best places to go hiking in Oakland is the Redwood Regional Park. This area is closely tucked away in the Oakland hills but worth the trip every time. Find your ways around the French Trail, Tres Sendas, or any other of the well maintained trails, for an amazing day of Bay Area hiking. This is one of the Best DOG FRIENDLY Hikes in the Bay Area.
