Colombia’s Top Places to Visit in 2022
Colombia is an absolutely amazing destination to visit in 2022 or for years to come. If you haven’t heard yet, there are a plethora of things to choose from as the country is a playground for exploration. Deciding on where and what to do is definitely the hardest part of the trip (or maybe speaking Spanish).
Luckily for you, I’ve roamed much of the country and have some thoughts on where you need to visit in 2020. Vamos!
There are some major stops that I think shouldn’t be missed, specifically if it’s your first time making the venture to this Country.
We will touch on those and a few others that will be making more and more headlines as years go by.

I don’t think any trip to Colombia is complete without a trip to Medellin. Another big city? Yes. But the pulse, history, beauty and lifestyle, make this an ideal starting point. (middle and ending are fine too). Here are my guides to the city that you can easily get caught up in from all the tours, nightlife, and local activities.
Desert De Tatacoa
Colombia has one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world. The country contains just about every type of landscape and makes it a dream for those searching for environmental variety. Desert de Tatacoa is one Colombia’s most stunning landscapes and should be a high priority for those looking for something majestic.
Camping in this destination provides full dark skies and little light pollution. Can you say astrophotography?
San Gil
As widely known as San Gil is, this outdoors lover’s dream still remains somewhat quiet and remote. The problem with San Gil is the number of activities to choose from (though I know).
Paragliding, bungee jumping, river rafting, mountain biking, the list grows and grows.
If you are someone who seeks an adrenaline rush, make your way to one of my favorite cities and don’t allow it to slip through the cracks.
Ciudad Perdida
Ciudad Perdida or “Lost City” is one of the most breathtaking and exhilarating hikes that can be experienced in Colombia. The Lost City is an ancient abandoned city that disappeared sometime during the Spanish conquest and only resurfaced sometime around the 1970s.
This multiday trek is not just historical and scenic, but not too physically demanding either. Time to strap up those boots and go find the lost city in the jungle.
Sierra Nevada Del Cocuy
Seeking some serious high altitude hiking in Colombia? Head to the Sierra Nevada Del Cocuy for some of Colombia’s and South America’s most pristine and isolated mountain explorations. The park is a conservation hotbed as it’s been closed and reopened to retain trail and ecosystem preservation, but as the pictures suggest, a MUST GO.
This is a kind of adventure you really need to plan as there is no camping in the park and all visitors must be on trails by 9 am.
Pacific Coast
The Pacific Coast of Colombia is one of my favorites and I can assure you, will be hard to recreate another environment like it. People end up missing this place usually because of lack of time, or it’s difficulty getting to.
If you have the time, go. If you have the time and are in Colombia during whale season, YOU MUST GO. (July-October)

Bucaramanga – Arguably one of the most underrated cities in Colombia. Bucaramanga is a major university city with thriving nightlife and excellent proximity to gorgeous scenery. Tucked away about an hour away from San Gil, Bucaramanga is a hotspot for those looking to get certified as paragliding instructors.
Cali – If you are looking to experience the birthplace of salsa and get a completely different city feel, Cali is for you. As you can expect, the city really shows it’s side in the evening so don’t exhaust yourself too much during the day.
Salento – Coffee lovers rejoice! Salento and the coffee triangle is for you. Don’t skip this spot for some unmatched misty mountain climate and coffee fincas.
Yes its popular, but WORTH every minute. Go get your buzz on and visit the Valle De Cocora
Surprisingly enough, people don’t realize how much easier it really is until they start and recognize what’s out there available too them.

Colombia is waiting for you to come visit. Aside from these 2020 destinations to consider, there are countless others that should be remembered too. The best part about Colombia, as I write this, is the low amount of visitors, in comparison to other hot spots.
Don’t think this will last forever though. Tourism in Colombia is expected to increase exponentially over the next decade.
